We got Europe to take a stand against FIFA’s leader

Gianni Infantino - the head of the global football governing body FIFA - could destroy football as we know it. But thanks to the actions we took together, he’s under more pressure than ever before.
Infantino has spent years cosying up to Trump. First he gave Trump a bogus peace prize, then he removed an inconvenient red card for the US team. [1] The integrity and fairness of football as a sport is at risk because of his actions.
But now he’s on the back foot, with countries across the world removing their support for him as FIFA president. And it’s all thanks to people like you speaking up.
Together with the human rights and football organisation FairSquare, we sent a mass ethics complaint to FIFA, signed by over 100,000 of you. [2] We emailed national football associations in Europe to call on them to withdraw their support for Infantino’s re-election. Over the next few days and weeks, many countries did just that. [3]
But some football associations still refused to take a stand. So together we stepped up the pressure and targeted them publicly on social media. And just a few days later, France - one of the top footballing countries in the world - announced they would also withdraw their support. [4]
The fight to hold Infantino accountable for his actions continues, but thanks to the WeMove Europe community, he has less support than ever before.
