Musk has been massively fined by the EU. [1]

All year long, we’ve been fighting to hold X - and Musk - accountable for spreading disinformation and undermining our democracy.

Together, we sent thousands of emails to decision-makers and flooded EU leaders’ social media with messages. We uncovered illegal content and reported it to regulators across Europe - with a personalised deck of cards to make sure they paid attention!

And just weeks ago, we drove a giant mobile billboard through Brussels demanding real rules to keep people safe online, not a digital Wild West for Big Tech. [2]

And the result couldn’t be sweeter: just days ago, Europe hit X with a massive fine of €120 million. The first of its kind. [3] That’s exactly what our community has been pushing for. Month after month. We did it. We took on Musk… and we won.

This victory is only the beginning.

Predictably, Musk didn’t take the fine quietly. On X, he insisted it targeted him “personally”, and proceeded to ban EU accounts on X. [4] [5] Then he went even further, declaring the European Union should be plainly abolished. [6]

The Commission’s response couldn’t have been clearer: this isn’t revenge - it’s the law. The EU doesn’t punish people; it enforces rules on companies that break them. [7]

We’re not stopping now. We’ll keep pushing to make sure Big Tech is held to account, and to keep our online spaces and our democracy safe.

Forever grateful to you,

Taïme and the entire WeMove Europe team.
