Three fights, three outcomes - and the battle ahead

President Von der Leyen shaking hands with Trump

Does the EU work for Trump - or for us?

Across Europe, we’ve been challenging EU leaders as they bow to Trump’s bullying. And together, we’ve already made our mark. Here’s what we’ve done, what’s at stake, and why we must keep going.

🛑 Europol mass surveillanceYour countries are being ruined by migration.” [1] That’s what Trump told Europe. And in Brussels, some leaders echo him - pushing to hand Europol, the European Union police agency, sweeping new powers. Far reaching powers to persecute people seeking safety and those who help them. A giant surveillance machine was on the table: millions of fingerprints and faces stored, police teams sent abroad in secret - with no judge watching them. [2] That’s when you stepped in. Just before the vote, 1,500 messages hit our representatives’ inboxes. Minutes later, the lawmakers were calling our partners: “What do citizens want us to do?” That was your voice - tipping the balance. We won: the worst plans were scrapped. But the danger remains: millions of euros are still being set aside for new surveillance systems. Data from people simply offering food to asylum seekers could slip into the wrong hands, while migrants and solidarity groups remain under watch.[3] Together we stopped Trump-style surveillance. Now we need to push back even harder.

💻 Break up Big Tech When it comes to control over our digital lives, Trump has been crystal clear: hands off Big Tech. And too often, Europe has felt the pressure to stay silent. That’s why we came together to demand the EU break up Google’s adtech monopoly, and take broader action to dismantle Big Tech’s unchecked power over our lives. Thousands of people in this community funded a YouGov poll demonstrating that two-thirds of people in France, Germany and Spain want the EU to enforce tougher rules on Big Tech, even if it risks conflict with Trump. [4] We made headlines in the media from Politico to Euronews, and even on TV, piling pressure on decision-makers to act. [5] Then in September, the Commission fined Google €2.95 billion for abusing its adtech power and gave it 60 days to fix its conduct. But while the fine is huge, it won’t break their toxic monopoly. That’s why with partners we staged a powerful stunt calling on the EU to go further and finally break up Google. [6] And we’re not stopping here: before the 60-day deadline runs out, we’ll be ramping up the pressure to make sure the EU doesn’t settle for cosmetic changes from Google, but takes real action to break their stranglehold.

🔥Trump Gas It’s not just on migration and Big Tech. Trump is also bullying Europe to buy more dirty US gas. First, he threatened us with tariffs. [7] And in response, our energy ministers, to appease Trump, suggested weakening Europe’s climate rules. [8] That’s when we stepped in. Our community sent almost 2.000 messages to our energy ministers. To echo our partners’ demands, they chained themselves in protest outside the Council, showing what it means to lock Europe into fossil fuels. [9] It worked. Crucial climate rules are still standing. But Trump’s energy chief is still pressuring Brussels to tear them down. [10] We won’t let that happen. Together, we’ll continue to mobilise thousands across Europe and work with allies to block any deal that drags us backwards into the fossil fuel age.

Three fights. Three outcomes. One clear truth: when we act together, we change Europe. The wins prove again that people power works - and the setbacks show us where to push harder.
