Together, we’ve safeguarded the safety and well-being of seals across Europe! 🎉

Seals can now breathe a sigh of relief easily: thanks to this incredible community, the Commission will not weaken their protection!

After thousands of emails from people like you, the European Commission changed its stance. At first, they refused to give clear guarantees to ensure seals aren’t hunted—but now, a crucial statement has appeared on their website:

“The Commission does not intend to weaken the protection level currently given to seals.”

This sentence wasn’t there before. It only appeared after we took bold action, flooding their inboxes with messages they couldn’t ignore. [1]

In fact, the Commission even emailed us, and mistakenly claimed we were spreading misinformation. But here’s the undeniable truth: if they were always committed to protecting seals, why did they change their messaging only after we mobilised?

This victory belongs to you. Because we refused to stay silent, we secured three major wins:

  • The Commission publicly clarified that EU protections for seals will not be weakened.
  • They updated their website, adding a paragraph that reaffirms the ban on seal products.
  • They responded directly to us—proving they couldn’t ignore the pressure from this movement.

We’ve made great progress! The Commission has committed to keeping protections to our seals, but now we need to ensure that the ban on seal trade in the EU will remain in place.

We’ve already proven that when we take action, we shift the conversation. Now, we’ll work on a plan to protect this victory—and seals—for good.
